VIJAYAWADA: A foreign security consultant will soon be roped in by police who will assist them in integrating safety and security aspects in the capital city master plan.City police commissioner Gautam Sawang said they received the go-ahead for appointment of the consultant. Police will soon call tenders. The CP said the proposed capital of Amaravati will be the first city in India where policing, safety and security aspects will be integrated in the planning phase itself.

“The endeavour is to incorporate best policing practices globally in the new capital. The consultants will sit with various stakeholders in preparing the capital city master plan to incorporate safety and security features,” Sawang added.

Emphasis will be on providing state-of-the-art security features. Police believe that incorporating safety and security measures in the planning stage will help in effortless and seamless integration while constructing the capital.

Sources in the police department said that they are not happy with certain layouts of the seed capital made by Singapore government. They raised the issue in the recently held discussions on seed capital master plan.

“A mega food plaza and a shopping complex were planned alongside secretariat and ministers’ offices. While we understand that the idea is to promote a people-friendly government, but having a food plaza and shopping complex will create security hassles. We said these facilities can be in the vicinity but not alongside key offices,” a senior police official told TOI.

Police are keen on incorporating best disaster management practices in the wake of high-rise buildings in the capital.
